All the badges available in the market for your usage, which are made of metal, come under the category of metal badges. The badges are used for hundreds of different purposes. In fact sometimes, these purposes cannot even be defined as a real purpose for use. For example, badges that kids use to play, or to decorate. Right from the royal insignias to the trivial toys are for kids play. Badges reach a long way in touching our lives. Their beauty and sustenance though becomes trivial at times, but in many cases it is of utmost importance. For example badges used by the military soldiers, for school student's identity as well as for the depicting special occasions and purposes like that used in the Remembrance day.
Types of badges of metal:
Such badges can be classified owing to several parameters. The type may be defined according to the way they are manufactured. They can also be put under the category of their usage, or according to their special features. Badges classified according to their features are mostly done owing to the enamel coating done on them. The enamel coating can be hard or soft. Another kind of badge classification is called print badges and die struck badge.
Hard and soft badges:
Soft enamel badges are basically a copy of hard enamel badges. The basic imprints, logos and colours are copied ditto to the metal badges, and then an epoxy coating is given to it, to impart a proper lustre to it. Therefore soft enamel badges are comparatively much cheaper compared to the hard ones. The hard enamel badges are however prepared with a due diligence to each level of preparation. The main material used for hard badge preparation is cloisonné. The qualities of these badges are quite fine, and therefore for each special purpose these are the most sought after groups of badges.
Die struck and print metal badges:
Die struck badges are basically those metal badges, the logos and emblems are carved into whose front side. Whereas the print metal badges are those on whose surface these logos and emblems are simply printed. The first step to prepare die struck badges is to carve a piece of metal with the design or logo. This design or logo is then stamped on another metal sheet say a copper or a steel sheet, this whole process is carried out with excessive care. These badges therefore show a two dimensional effect and to give it more realistic feel, the badges are also layered sometimes with enamel in the openings, and in all the areas that may need a filling due to its rough features. However, print badges may sound like they are just a print and can be manufactured in large numbers without any diligence needed, but even they have certain benefits. They can be made in different colours. There are certain logos that cannot be simply die struck-ed. For such badges, printing of the badges may be a better option. If you are talking about badges, there are still six by ten chances that it's about metal badges.
